Imphal, September 10: Police bomb experts have safely exploded a mortar-shell shaped explosive item recovered from near the hill-locks of Nongren village under Imphal East district.

The explosive item was blasted at around 10.15 am today.

As per police report, one Kongrailakpam Modhuchandra Sharma (34) s/o Yaima of Nongren Mamang Leikai found the bomb some days back while he was cutting/gathering fire-woods at the nearby hills and had been keeping the same at his house.

However, realising the danger of keeping such item, he reportedly contacted Lamlai police station whose personnel further informed the matter to the police bomb squad for disposal.
