Imphal, May 09: Joining the band-wagon in voicing against the state government decision to provide guns to a section of Manipuri villagers "to defend themselves" from the militants and also strongly condemning the arrest of MAFYF president S.Kangleipal, the Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), South Sector, said that arming villagers will prove suicidal for the society.

The NPMHR-South Sector terms the move of the Manipur cabinet decision as irresponsible and anti-people.

Convenor of the Naga rights body convenor S.Phamhring cautions that providing guns to the villagers will create more chaos than solving the problem.

He then urged the state government to reconsider its decision or else a bleak future is ahead of the society.

On the arrest of Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) president S.Kangleipal by the police, the Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights-South Sector strongly condemned the development and said that S.Kangleipal should be released immediately without any condition.

The NPMHR said that the arrest of MAFYF chief amounts to the violation of human rights by the state force.
