Haflong, December 08 2009: Three members of NSCN(K) militant group were today killed in an encounter with security forces in Assam''s North Cachar Hills district, police said.

Army and police personnel launched a joint operation at Borohaflong after local people informed them about the presence of the militants who had gone there to extort money.

The security forces asked the militants to surrender but they made an attempt to escape by opening fire.

In retaliatory fire by the security personnel, three militants were killed on the spot.

The security forces recovered two pistols, two mobile phones and several documents from their possession.
