Imphal, February 05 2010: Two suspected UG cadres have been shot dead in a reported encounter that took place at Kamuching under Lamlai police station in Imphal East district at around 6.15 pm today.

According to a police source, Imphal East commandos, acting on a specific tip off about presence of armed UG cadres in Kamuching area, moved into the area resulting in a shoot-out which lasted for around 30 minutes.

Two UG cadres were slain in the encounter.

On searching the area later, one UMG rifle, one drum-magazine, one chain of bullets containing 38 live rounds, one AK 56 rifle, two magazines, six live rounds and one lathode gun with three shells were recovered from the enounter site.

Lamlai police have picked up the corpses and deposited at RIMS mortuary.
