Imphal, January 28 2010: Tension was erupted at Heingang area in Imphal east district when personnel of Village Defense Force (VDF) attaching at Heingang police station fired some rounds of guns in an attempt bid to pick three youths on the charge of assaulting them last night.

The three youths picked by the VDF attached at the Heingang police and released later after beaten up at the police station were identified as Sanglakpam Ramkanta (18) son of Nandababu of Heingang Makha Leikai, his brother Sanglakpam Rabikanta (19) and Yangoijam Ranjoy (18) son of Tomcha of the same locality with the former.

VDF personnel fired some rounds of guns when the locals blocked them from carrying away the three youths and forcibly taken away them to the police station.

They were later released with minor injuries of beaten up at the station at about 8 pm.

Locals were not happy with the firing of guns amidst the crowd by the VDF and questioned how and under whose supervision, they fired the guns.
