Imphal, July 25 2009: DESAM has decided to go to court against detention of some students of Manipur University including its education and academic affairs secretary under NSA, conveyed a press release issued by its president LC Santosh.

Saying that it has been undertaking democratic forms of agitation for the last two months demanding a white paper on the arrest and detention of the students, the DESAM lamented that the Government rather that paying any heed to its demands, have been searching for DESAM functionaries to pull them up.

Any tussle or confrontation between DESAM and the Government on the issue would result in greater hardships and misery to the common people, more particularly students.

To avoid causing more hardships to the people by confronting the Government, DESAM would be going to court to settle the matter.

The failure of the Government to produce a white paper on the arrest and detention of the students under NSA is an ample proof that the students are not guilty, the student body asserted.
