Imphal, March 20: The body of Salam Brojen who was found shot dead after being picked up by unidentified gunmen from his Arong Khunou Awang Leikai residence in the evening of March 17 has been taken away by the family members following an agreement between the JAC formed against the killing and the Government today.

The body of Brojen had been lying at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital with the JAC Against the Killing of Salam Brojen Singh of Arong Khunou Awang Leikai demanding the Government to effect arrest and punishment of the killers among other demands.

During the course of a joint meeting at the office chamber of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today, representatives of the JAC raised the demands for identification of the killers and taking up necessary legal action against them immediately, payment of ex-gratia to the bereaved family before the Mangani Leihun ritesof the deceased and offering a suitable Government job to one of the family members.

The Chief Minister reportedly assured the representatives of doing the needful in connection with the demands of the JAC.

Accordingly, the family members agreed to take back the body.

MLA of Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency E Dwijamani reportedly played a major role in facilitating the meeting.

Although the family members have agreed to take back the body following the assurances given by the Chief Minister, the JAC has, nonetheless, warned of launching various intense agitations in case the assurances were not converted into action by the Government.
