Imphal, March 17 2010: Suspected undergrounds made a failed hand grenade attack at the house of the up-adhayaksha of Imphal West Zilla Parishad at Ngairangbam Makha Leikai under Patsoi police station yesterday night, at about 8.30 pm.

A sit-in protest was staged by the villagers against the failed attack that panicked to the family of the up-adhayaksha as well as neighbouring.

The hand grenade was hurled by two youths coming on a motorcycle.

It failed to explode.

The bomb was found lying near the main entrance gate of the house when husband of the up-adhayaksha Bijenti, Chanam Iboton when he look at on hearing something dropping sound when he was about to close the gate.

The hand grenade was a China Make one when police examined and defused last night itself.

Decrying the threatened to the house of the up-adhayaksha, villagers of the Ngairangbam today staged a sit-in protest starting from 10 am till 4 pm.

Around 100 womenfolk of the village took part in the protest.

They demanded underground group responsible for the act clarify on the act with reasons for causing panic to the people.

They strongly decried the attack stating that such act of causing panic to the should not be indulged in.

They also asked whether they are waging war only to harrassed the people expressing concern over the attacks witnessing in the state on extortion demands.
