Families claim bodies of Keibul killings

Imphal, May 13 2009: The bodies of the five non-Manipuris who were killed by unidentified armed persons at Keibul Lamjao National Park on May 11 have been taken by their respective family members today.

With exception to body of Md Abin Ali (13) of Baskandi, Silchar, whose last rites was performed at Hatta here, the rest of the bodies have been taken to their native place.

Before being taken to their native place of Kalakasher in Bulansahar of Uttar Pradesh, the post mortem examination on the bodies of Md Iqbal Khan (23), Md Umar (23), Md Hanib (24) and Md Rashid Ali have been conducted at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.

On the other hand, Bishnupur District Police continued their search for more possible bodies at the park for the second consecutive day today.

The search operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Additional SP Isaac Shah.

It may be noted here that out of the nine non-Manipuris who have been taken into the park by some unidentified armed persons, the bodies of five of them have been recovered while another managed to escape and three others are still missing.
