Dimapur, April 26: With factional violence rearing its ugly head in especially Dimapur and Kohima districts of Nagaland, the two district administrations have girded up their loins to react to the situation.

The Dimapur District Co-ordination Group, formed on Friday at a joint meeting held at the DC's conference hall , made it clear in no uncertain terms that firing in public places was illegal and therefore would be discouraged.

Expressing dismay that the armed cadres were using the public as their "bunkers", DC Dimapur, Maongwati Aier, cautioned that firing in public places was illegal.

The Group, formed with members from the district administration and various NGOs, said its effort would be to create an atmosphere of peace.

But in Kohima, the District Level Ceasefire Monitoring Group (DLCMG) directed all armed underground activists to vacate public-inhabited areas in the district with immediate effect.

The group cautioned that a joint operation would be carried out to flush out the activists in the event of their failure to respond to the directive.

DC Kohima and chairman of DLCMG, Sachopra Vero, cautioned that precautionary measures would be taken by all concerned to stop the free movement of armed cadres belonging to different factions.

The meeting requested SP Kohima, Renchamo Kikon, to ensure regular patrolling and adequate security in and around Kohima town.

It also opined that the civil societies and NGOs should ask the public not to allow armed cadres to stay in their houses.
