Two hurt in blast

Imphal, May 21 2009: A son and a daughter-in-law of a fertilizer dealer have been injured in a grenade attack launched by an unidentified youth at the residence of the fertilizer dealer at Khurai Konsam Leikai tonight.

According to police sources, the grenade exploded at the courtyard of fertilizer dealer Laitonjam Pishak (62) at about 8 pm.

His youngest son Suresh (29) and daughter-in-law Sandhyarani (35) w/o Hemanta were hit by shrapnels.

They have been admitted at RIMS.

The bomb exploded when Suresh came out to lock the gate while Sandhyarani was coming out after having dinner.

Suresh sustained injuries on right calf and Sandhyarani on left hand.

According to information culled from the spot, a youth was seen speeding away on a Honda Activa towards the South moments after the explosion.

Even as some local people pursued they could not apprehend the youth.

Pishak said that he was under pressure to fulfil a monetary demand.

He refused to divulge the name of the group(s) which made the demand.
