Imphal, February 10 2009: Decrying the repeated incidents of killing people in reported encounters at Ngairangbam, a protest demonstration was staged near Ngairangbam Primary School today on the demand "Don't turn Ngairangbam into a killing field".

The protest demonstration was staged in the wake of killing one Naorem Bobo (21) of Luker Mayai Leikai and one Ningombam Biranjoy (22) Luker Maning Leikai by a combined team of Imphal West commandos and troops of 12 Maratha Light Infantry in the night of February 8 .

Representatives of the Pakhangba Loyalakpa Women Welfare Association under which the protest was staged said that such violent incidents cause severe disturbance and created fear psychosis among the peace-loving and simple villagers of Ngairangbam.

They also appealed to security forces to give befitting punishment to all accused according to law after conducting a fair trial.

The Meira Paibi leaders further urged upon all concerned to stop the practice of killing people summarily on spot.

On the other hand, corpses of the two youths from Luker killed in a reported encounter have been handed over to respective families after post mortem at RIMS today.
