Imphal, December 31 2008: In protest against the killing of its Highway Task force (HTF) commander Akoijam Shaymbi alias Kokai by a combined team of Manipur police commandos and Central forces last evening, the proscribed KCP has announced imposition of 24 hour State wide general strike from 5 am of January 1, 2009.A KCP statement issued jointly by HTF commander Telheiba and commander valley operation commander Thouyangba claimed that Kokai was apprehended on December 29 from Amarjan of Golaghat district in Assam by a team of Central forces and Manipur police and shot dead at around 6 pm yesterday.

Describing Kokai as a committed individual and KCP leader who relentlessly worked to unite factions of the KCP organisation, the KCP functionaries also called upon the armed/ revolutionary organisations in general and the KCP in particular strive for unity and sustain the revolutionary movement.
