Imphal, Jul 24: Along with taking up the issue related to the assurance reportedly given by Union HRD Minister to Naga Students' Federation on affiliation of schools in the hill districts of Manipur with Nagaland Board during the meeting of the SPF Steering Committee slated to be held tomorrow, CPI Manipur State Council would be drawing the attention of its Central leaders into the matter.

Informing this while talking to mediapersons at Irabot Bhavan here today, State secretary of the party B Sharma said that although CPI is a partner of the Governments both at the Centre and the State, it has its own stand on the issue and would never remain silent to the sinister designs of some elements in inciting innocent students to burn their text books and create enmity among the people.

CPI would be taking up the matter during the meeting of the SPF Steering Committee meeting slated to be held tomorrow and after studying the outcome of the meeting party's headquarters would be approached for taking up necessary remedial measures in this connection, Sharma disclosed.

Apart from this, the party would raise the issue of Tipaimukh dam during the meeting tomorrow, CPI State secretary added.

On the peace process being worked out between the Govt of India and some of the underground organisation groups of the North Eastern region, Sharma observed that just as peace parleys being held with ULFA and NCSN (I-M), the Centre should initiate peace process with other underground outfits.

To make this possible, the Government should be sincere in its approach instead of just giving lip service and the people should also extend their support, he said, adding that his party would do everything possible so that peace can reign once again not only in Manipur but in the entire North Eastern region.

He further said that although the developmental works being taken up by the State Government in the hill districts of late is appreciable, CPI would accept hike in the price of diesel and petrol by the UPA Government at the Centre as it is giving direct effect on smooth functioning of the Public Distribution System.

He also fervently appeal to both the State and the Central Government for improving the functioning of the PSD in Manipur.
