Zillai refutes killing claim

Imphal, May 14: Refuting the claim that Malsawn Vaiphei who was killed in the UGs' clash at Ngamukhong was a UG, Zillai General Headquarters (Vaiphei Students' Association) has asserted that he was a church goer and general secretary of Kamuching village authority besides working in a private school as teacher.

Having a family with three children, he was the sole bread-earner of the family and his good reputation is well known to the surrounding villages, information and publicity secretary of the student body said in a statement.

According to the statement, on that fateful day, Malsawn and his friend Tomba were on their way to Yairipok in a scooter.

However, they were waylaid by unknown UGs and forcibly send them to Chandrakhong for some reason.

On their way back, they were fired upon by another UG group killing Tomba, the driver, instantly.

Malsawm survived with minor injuries and he was given first aid by the villagers of Nungbrang, Tera-Urak.

However, a group of local gathered and clubbed Malsawm to death.

So the report of the incident was totally baseless and false, the student body said.
