Sports bodies stage protest

Imphal, August 09: With the Beijing Olympics already started and the fate of Monika in the doping case still undecided, the Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) and other sport associations along with student bodies on Saturday staged a sit-in-protest at the Khuman Lampak stadium, Imphal East.

E Bijoykumar, President of MOA has urged the people of Manipur to agitate tomorrow, August 10, and bring the State to a standstill by stopping all their daily activities for a day as a part of the protest against the Government of India to send Monika to the Olympic.

He also disclosed that in a meeting held earlier during the day, the resolutions taken yesterday, August 8, remained the same.

He also added that further agitations would taken up if the Indian Government and the concern authorities failed to send Monica to the Beijing Olympic.

Joining the protest, the Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA), Khuman Lampak Sports Complex on Saturday condemned the Sports Authority of India.

Ph Chandrakumar Sharma, Secretary of the Association, in a press release stated that the mainland (India) was not ready to promote the players from the region (Manipur).

Condemning this act as an assassination of the sportspersons of the state, the secretary of the association urged the state government to bring out the reality of the ongoing episode of the doping case on Monica.

Putting his confidence in the sincere efforts of the state Government Chandrakumar also stated that the truth be revealed as soon as possible, however not just for the name sake.

He also disclosed that MMTA has already sent a complain to Dr MS Gill, ex-President Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi and the present Union Minister Youth Affairs and Sports.

MP T Meinya talking to the press said that CM Ibobi Singh had left for New Delhi on Saturday morning to meet the concern authorities and bring a solution.

He also disclosed that he would be leaving for the Capital for the same matter and hoped that a solution would be brought to the Monika doping case.

In this regards he urged the people of Manipur to be patient and hope for the best.
