Imphal, August 09: Owing to the non-availability of cement in the backdrop of the prolonged ANSAM-sponsored economic blockade construction of Pakhangba temple has been stopped.

Superintendent of State Archeology Sapam Bheigya, while confirming the stalling of the such construction, said more beautification works at the historic site which are in the offing, would also been affected if the stir continued.

The proposed work being taken up by Manipur Police Housing Corporation include construction of the fort at its northern side among others.

The conservative works of the age old Govindajee temple inside the fort is underway in full swing, Bheigya said.

Skilled workers of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), India Chapter have now completed over 30 percent of the conservative work.

Local skilled carpenters engaged in the works are carving wooden beams to replace the old ones at the temples.

The development of the inner Kangla moat has also been stopped because of rain.
