Five bodies taken away

Imphal, February 09: The bodies of the three suspected underground activities who were shot dead by Imphal West Police Commandos during an encounter at a place in between Naran Konjil and Samurou under Wangoi PS on Feb 7 night have been taken away by their respective families after postmortem at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital here today.

The slain UGs were Naorem Boboi (24) s/o Ibohal of Kakwa Naorem Leikai, Khaidem Boker (24) s/o Ibobi of Kakwa Huidrom Leikai and Santosh Pradhan of Mantripukhri, but was staying at Kakwa Asem Leikai.

The family members of all three claimed that they were innocent jeep drivers and have been picked up from Kakwa Naorem Leikai by some security personnel in civvics on Feb 7 night.

The security personnel had also reportedly searched at the house of Boker.

On the other hand, the body of Md Kudus Ali alias Bobo (22) of Urup Makha Leikai who was shot dead by a combined force of Imphal East Police Commandos and of 32 Assam Rifles at Yangdong Thongkhong under Porompat PS on the night of February 7 too has been taken away by his family members after postmortem at RIMS today.

The body was taken after an agreement between the representatives of the JAC formed in connection with the killing and the Chief Minister during a meeting at around 12.30 pm today.

The points of agreement include institution of an inquiry into the incident by a police official not below the rank of an IGP and payment of ex-gratia in accordance to the rules.

Meanwhile, the identity of the body which was fished out from Kangla moat under Imphal Police Station yesterday morning has been established as that of one Khangakpam Suraj (21) s/o Kulamani of Nagamapal Chungkham Leikai.

According to report he was not of stable mind and his whereabouts had not been since January 26 .

The body was handed over to the family members after post-mortem examination at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital today.
