Imphal, November 25: The JAC Against the Killing of Ch Hemchandra has denounced the manner of discharging Irungbam Devan (64) of Khurkhul by RIMS authority.

Devan sustained severe injuries in the November 16 bomb blast at Videocon House Paona Bazar.

Even though his condition then demanded a surgical operation, RIMS doctors discharged him after giving first aid saying that there was no equipment to conduct operation at RIMS.

Briefing media persons on the matter at Press Club today, JAC convenor Devchandra Heikrujam alleged that even as I Devan sustained severe splinter injuries on both legs, RIMS doctors on duty then treated him in the most casual manner.

Moreover, saying that RIMS has no equipment to conduct surgical operation, they discharged the blast victim on the same day by giving only first aid.

On the next day (November 17), Devan took X-ray photographs of his injured body parts in a private clinic.

As bomb splinters were observed in the X-ray photographs, he was admitted to Shija Hospital on November 21.The splinters were removed on the next day at Shija Hospital after an operation, informed the JAC convenor.

While strongly condemning the alleged discriminatory attitude of RIMS doctors, he appealed to the authority concerned to take up necessary corrective measures so that such unfortunate incidents do not recur in future.

Even as the State Government has assured to provide monetary assistance to the victims of the bomb blast, it still remains unfulfilled, he lamented while urging for immediate assistance to the victims.

Citing the clarification made by a particular UG group, the convenor also condemned the misleading claim of Videocon House proprietor who said there was not threat from any UG group.

Devchandra appealed to all concerned not to undertake such arm attacks in busy market places.

The press meet was also attended by all surviving November 16 blast victims, Irungbam Devan, his son Surjit, Asem Satyabrata and Thokchom Surmila.
