Planted bombs terrorize people

Imphal, May 25: After a bomb was placed at the shop of one P Pishak at Yairipok Keithel on May 22 by PULF, another bomb was also 'gifted' to another shop located next to Pishak's today.

This second incident of placing in the commercial area has virtually terrified the shopkeepers, women vendors as well as the local people.

The Indian made hand grenade planted at a shop was discovered by people who came out for morning walk at about 5.30 am.

The shop where the grenade was placed belongs to one Soraisham Ramajit (27) of Huikap.

On being informed about the discovery of the grenade, troops of 34 Assam Rifles posted at Yairipok came to the spot and safely retrieved the explosive at about 6.10 am.

Yairipok market has been shut down since May 22 when the PULF placed a bomb at the shop of Pishak.

Consequent upon the closure of the market, local people are facing extreme hardships as essential commodities have now become unavailable.

Talking about the intimidating acts to media persons this afternoon, shopkeepers of Yairipok market disclosed that they were caught in a deep predicament.

Sometime back PULF demanded a huge amount from the shopkeepers setting a definite deadline to fulfil their demand.

Subsequently, the shopkeepers contributed a certain amount for delivery to the outfit.

But before the money could be delivered to the outfit, 34 Assam Rifles seized the money and threatened the shopkeepers not to give money to UG groups.

The AR troops warned that they will be arrested if they give money to UG group, conveyed the shopkeepers.

When the shopkeepers were thus caught in a helpless situation, a bomb was placed at the shop of Pishak followed by another one today.

These two intimidating acts in quick succession have completely terrorized the people, the local people said while appealing to all concerned to withdraw all the threats on humanitarian ground.
