Imphal, October 24 2009: Even as the 24 hours general strike called in protest against the brutal killing of retired doctor Huidrom Binodkumar as concluded with little untoward incident, the JAC has lined up different forms of intense agitation.

The JAC has asked the Government to establish the facts and circumstances of the murder and identify the culprits within 48 hours.

Even as no major untoward incident was reported during the 24 hours strike, vehicular traffic was disrupted between Singjamei Chingamakhong and Moirangkhom along ImphalMoreh road.

However, some vehicles who ventured out defying the bandh were vandalised by bandh supporters.

They also put up road blocks like timbers, boulders and burning tyres on this stretch of the NH 39 .

Though the general strike affected normal life between Moirangkhom and Singjamei, the strike had little impact in other parts of the State.

During the general strike, passenger vehicles diverted their routes to Mayai Lambi through Pishumthong and Keishamthong.

Khwairamband market and other important market centres were unaffected by the strike.

Even as the general strike was being imposed by a large group of people, a group of women staged a protest demonstration against the murder of Dr Binodkumar at Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak.

The protesters put up placards which read as "we condemn murder of Dr Binodkumar", "Book and punish murderers of Dr Binodkumar", "we want peace" etc.

But the sit-in-protest was disrupted by a team of police who not only drove away the women protesters but also snatched away the festoons, placards and mats used by the protesters.

Speaking to media persons this afternoon, spokesperson of the JAC said that more intense agitation would be launched together with the people in case the Govt cannot book the killers within 48 hours.

Appealing to civil organisations for support in its protest movement, the JAC further appealed to all concerned to own and clarify the killing of Dr Binodkumar at the earliest.

Condemning the excesses committed by police against women protesters who were staging a sit-in-protest peacefully, the spokesperson sought attention of the Government towards the excesses of police personnel.

Dr Huidrom Binodkumar of Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak left home on October 21 to draw money from a bank but he was found dead next morning in a farm house located in Yumnam Khunou agricultural fields under Heingang police station.
