Imphal, October 24 2008: Out of the eight suspected UGs killed by security forces in three different incidents of encounter in Imphal yesterday, five of them have been identified today.

Claiming one of the slain to be an innocent person, a 48 hour general strike has also been called along the Imphal-Moreh line of NH-39 and Sugnu Road with effect from midnight today.

The UG suspect who was killed by the Imphal West District Police Commandos during an encounter near Chinglou Loukon of Nongpok Sanjenbam of Imphal East has been identified as Thounaojam Ibungobi (28( s/o Singhajit of Nungoi Huidrom.

It is said that he had been earlier arrested and jailed by Police Commandos on alleged charge of being a member of KRA.

On the other hand, out of the five persons killed during encounter with a com'bined force of Imphal East Police Commandos and 39 Assam Rifles near Heibi Makhong of Heingang Marjing Ching last night, three of them have been identified.

They were Yahiya Khan (22) s/o Abdul Hafiz of Sora Awang Leikai, Salam Rajesh (25) s/o Chaoba of Mo'irang Khunou Chandrapur and Laishram Tompok (28) s/o Angou of Sekmaijin Bazar.

It is said that just after completion of his computer course at Guwahati, Yahiya Khan was looking after his mother who has been admitted to Down Town Hospital.

His whereabouts had not been known after went out of the gate of the hospital in the evening of October 22 until the news of his killing by the security personnel at Heingang last night.

Claiming Md Yahiya Khan to be an innocent person, a public meeting held at Sora Bazar today has demanded institution of a judicial inquiry, punishment of the guilty security personnel, payment of ex-gratia and suitable job offer to one of the family members of the deceased as well as passing of an Act to prevent security personnel from killing innocent people.

Refusing to take back the body until these demands have been met, along with formation of a JAC, a 48 hour general strike has also been called along Imphal-Moreh and Sugnu Roads have been called with effect from midnight today.

On the other hand, Rajesh had left home some one month back to take up computer classes in Guwahati while Tompok had been working as a private servicemen at Goa for the last one and half year.

He had reportedly telephoned home some 4/5 days earlier telling that he had arrived at Guwahati.

Meanwhile, out of the two UG suspects killed by a combined force of Imphal West Commandos and 39 Assam Rifles at an encounter which took place at Maharabi within minutes of the Heingang incident last night, one of slain has been identified as Paominlal alias Lalcha Vaiphei (26) s/o Seingam of Nongmaiching Terakhong.

According to family members, Paominlal was working as a Grade-IV employees in the head office of the Electricity Depar'tment at Keishampat.
