Imphal, January 23 2009: In protest against leaving a hand grenade by unidentified persons at Little Master English Higher Secondary School, Samurou yesterday, students, teachers, guardians of the students and the local people jointly staged a Wakat Meepham at the gate of the school today.

Placards with slogans like 'Don't place bombs in schools and create fear psychosis in the minds of the young students', 'Don't try to convert schools into battlefields', etc were put up during the protest demonstration.

The hand grenade which was wrapped in a newspaper had been reportedly left by some persons who identified themselves as members of the proscribed KCP with the instruction that it should be handed over to the school principal.

The hand grenade had been safely detonated by the bomb experts later during the day yesterday.

It is said that a caller who identified as belonging to the proscribed outfit had demanded Rs 5 lakhs from the principal through telephone some two months back.
