Imphal, October 18 2008: One suspected PREPAK cadre was killed in a reported encounter with a combined force of Imphal West commandos and troops of 32 AR at Mayang Imphal Bengoon, about 3 kms South of Mayang Imphal police station last midnight.

One reported sympathiser of the proscribed PREPAK was also nabbed after being overpowered by the security personnel following the shoot-out.

Acting on a specific tip off about the presence of banned PREPAK cadres in Mayang Imphal area, the combined force moved in and they saw some 4/5 people walking ahead in a suspicious manner.

But when they were asked to halt, they turned around and opened fire resulting in an encounter for about 15 minutes, informed a police source.

Later when the shoot-out ceased, the combined security team found one UG suspect shot dead in the encounter site.

The security team also recovered one country made carbine, one magazine, eight live rounds and one NV scooter (MN-1A/3774) from just beside the slain cadre.

The other UG suspects managed to make their escape good taking advantage of the darkness, added the source.

Police have picked up the corpse and deposited at RIMS mortuary.

A late report informed that the slain cadre is one Salam Heramot (30) s/o Manglemba of Sekmaijin Khunou.

The arrested PREPAK sympathiser identified as Asem Jayenta (28) s/o Angou of Komlakhong Ireima Leirak was produced before Court today.

He has been remanded to police custody for five days.
