Imphal, February 11 2009: A Joint Action Committee against the alleged killing of Letkhongam Khongsai of Kangpokpi Ward No 7 has been formed today in the joint meeting of Kangpokpi Urban Town Committee, Kangpokpi Youth Union, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation and Kuki Students' Organisation Sadar Hills.

Narrating the incident, the JAC alleged that the body of Letkhongam who had left home to visit his relative at Leimakhong on January 10 at around 10 am was found the next day at Khurkhul Makha Leikai.

Wrapped in a phanek, the corpse was discovered with his ears cut off and front teeth struck off, it said adding later on it was confirmed that the victim was being tortured and mercilessly murdered on the pity charge of robbing one bicycle and gas cylinder by the Khurkhul Makha Leikai.

Even after the case had been filed with the Sekmai Police Station no effective action has been initiated so far to book the culprits, it asserted.

To settle the case amicably, the KUTC had formally invited the Pradhan and members of Khurkhul Gram Panchayats on Feb 3 for a joint meeting at Kangpokpi but to no avail since there has been no positive response from them, the JAC rued.

Resenting the alleged lackadaisical attitude of Govt in handling such cases like brutal killing of Letkhongam and negative attitude of Khurkhul Panchayats, the JAC has appealed the Government and its law enforcing machinery to book the culprits by Feb 14, failing which it would launch any form of agitation, it urged.
