Imphal, May 07: Reacting on State Government's decision to arm the villagers of Heirok and Lilong Chajing, Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) today asserted that issuing of arms to the masses would not bring tranquillity in the State.

The organisation also suggested the UG groups to work by understanding the pulse of the masses.

Maintaining that issuing of arms to the villagers is apprehensive, HERICOUN asserted that there would not be any reason to rate the State Government as political criminal if the decision result to any untoward incident amongst the villagers.

Meanwhile, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) also urged various social organisations of the State to work together in bringing a solution in this regard instead of being remained as a mere onlooker.

DESAM also appealed the JACs not to carry away with the short-sighted decision of the State Cabinet.

Maintaining that State Police with the help of huge number of Central security personnel are not able to protect life and wealth of the masses, DESAM asserted that it is ridiculous if State Government thinks that people can protect themselves by arming them.

Threatened Indigenous Peoples' Society (TIPS) Manipur while asserting to rethink over the matter said that the inconvenience would be faced only by people not by the Government if such steps create trouble in future.

The organisation also asked how arming of people can bring peace when even 75 thousand armed Central security personnel fail to do.

Reminding the objectives of the UNO as disarm, decolonise and develop, TIPS stressed on bringing of a solution by finding out the beginning of the issue.

Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Lup expressed worry that the decision may bring more bloodshed in this already chaotic State.
