Two shot dead, house attacked

Imphal, September 03: Two suspected UG activists have been gunned down in Thoubal district area while thc Konjengbam Leikai rcsidence of an Engineer has been attacked for the fifth time in the past few months.

A police report informed of Thoubal district police commandos gunning down two youths along the Stadium road at Thoubal Ningombam at around 7 pm today.

An encounter reportedly ensued between the police commandos and the two yet-to-be identified persons who were seen coming from Ikop-Pat (lake) side resulting in the duo's slaying.

An AK series rifle with one magazine and six live rounds and a 9 mm pistol with one magazine and two live rounds had been recovered from the two, whose bodies have been picked up by a police team.

In the other incident this evening, suspected PREPAK activists opened fire at the Konjengbam leikai residence of State Mechanised Farm's Engineer Konthoujam Manoranjan at around 6.30PM.About 10 individuals, including labourers engaged in the construction of the out-house were briefly detained by the attackers.

The same house had been attacked four times ealier.

Police sources said about two persons barged into Manoranjan's house and opened fire that damaged an LCD colour television kept in the drawing room in addition to firing two rounds at a parked Maruti Gypsy (MN01K-6640).Police also recovered three empty cases of small arm.

Another television set was also damaged in a previous attack, the police source recounted while conveying that the TV set destroyed in today's firing was recently purchased.

Meanwhile, two PULF cadres were apprehended by Imphal East district police commandos at around 9.40 am yesterday from Soibam I.eikai area whom a release of SP (IE) identified as Md Chingish Khan alias Rabi (27) s/o Md Abdul Rahaman of Kshergao Sabal Leikai and Md Fazul Haque alias Sanju (25) s/o (L) Md Itomba of Porompat Pangal Leirak.

Demands letters appended with the signature of PULF's project officer one Mustak Ali and addressed to Manipur AIDS Control Society and Department of Industry have been recovered from Md Chingish Khan's possession, the SP added.
