Cash transaction in banks suspended owing to withdrawal of security guards

Imphal, May 03 2010: Cash transaction in most of the banks in Imphal area have been suspended as security personnel detailed at the banks were called out for deployment at the border with Nagaland to prevent entry of NSCN(IM) general secretary, Th Muivah.

Reporter of Hueiyen Lanpao visited at except the bank branches of UBI and SBI at Paona Bazar guarded by the central security forces, cash transactions in other banks like Allahabad Bank at Paona Bazar, U Co Bank, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, Bijaya Bank etc.

With regard to the suspension of cash transaction at the Allahabad Bank, the chief general manager, AP Verma said it has been suspended owing to withdrawal of the MR personnel guarding the bank.

They were taken out by an order of the state government, he revealed.

With the apprehension that there would come up any untoward incident in cash transaction process, the bank authority decided to suspend until security guard redeployed in the bank.

However, other works in the bank continue as usual.

As per a letter received by the bank authority from the state DGP, the security has been withdrawn till May 5 as they have been deployed at other places.

The letter did not mention the place where the security personnel are to deploy.
