Imphal, September 01: In two separate incidents, two suspected UG cadres have been slain today.

According to a PIB (DW) release, the first incident occurred at 3.30 pm when a combined team of 16 AR and Imphal West police commandos moved to an area about 5 kms Southeast of Kotlen post.

There the combined force came under heavy fire.

The security team retaliated and one UG cadre was killed in the ensuing gun fight.

One 9 mm pistol and a few live ammunition have been recovered from the encounter site, it added.

However, according to reports, one suspected UG cadre was killed in the encounter while three others managed to escape during a reported encounter at Khonglong village along NH-53 today.

The incident took place at about 3.30 pm at Khonglong, about one kilometre away from BRTF Hqs located under Sapermaina police station in Senapati district.

Acting on a specific information that some UG cadres were plotting to lay an ambush against security forces at Khonglong, the combined team moved in to the area.

There an encounter ensued with the UG cadres and it lasted for about 10 minutes, conveyed a police source.

The security team saw four UG cadres in the scene but three of them managed to make good their escape.

Patsoi Police have picked up the unidentified corpse.

The second reported encounter in which another UG suspect was killed took place on the road to Langthabal Ayokpa Khul, just beyond the southern boundary of Manipur University campus under Singjamei police station.

The UG suspect was gunned down by a combined force of Imphal West commandos and troops of 32 AR at about 6.30 pm.

One .32 pistol was recovered from his possession.

Incidentally, there is a post of 32 AR on a hill top within MU campus near the encounter site.
