Chase of child lifters: SF claims two killed

Imphal, July 30: Two suspected underground cadres were killed in an alleged shoot out with personnel of Imphal West police commandos and 12 Maratha Light Infantry at Laphupat Tera Part II today about 12.45 pm.

According to a statement issued by the SP of Imphal West police today, the security personnel rushed to the area on receiving intelligence inputs that a 19 year old year boy Akham Bobby Singh (19) son of A Noren Singh of Mayang Imphal Thana Wangkhei Leikai, a child recruiter was arrested from Langthabal Kunja today at about 9.30 am.

On interrogation the accused revealed that 12 years old Sachdev Singh son of W Noren Singh of Mayang Imphal Thana Wangkhei Leikai and 13 years old Ksh Suresh Singh son of Ksh Achou Singh of Mayang Imphal Thana Wangkhei Leikai were kidnapped by A Noren under the command of one Chongtham Jibon Singh of (25) of Mayang Imphal Thana Maning presently statying at laphupat Tera of PREPAK (VC).

Recalling the encounter the statement said that on immediate receipt of the report, a combined team of Imphal West police commandos and 12 MLI rushed to the spot.

On approaching Laphupat Tera Part II the troops were fired upon and when the troops responded an encounter ensued for about 10 minutes after which it was found that two bodies were found and the photograph of W Sachdev taken captive by PREPAK was found on the body of one the killed militants, claimed the SP.

This suggests that the two killed belonged to PREPAK (VC), said the SP of Imphal West.

Meanwhile chief Minister O Ibobi Singh presided a meeting of the Unified Command Combined Headquarters held this afternoon that focused on kidnapping of children and measures to prevent such acts.

Among others the meeting is informed to have been attended by the Chief Secretary Rakesh, Principal Secretary (Home) DS Poonia, DGP Y Joykumar, GOC 57 Mountain Division TS Handa, IGAR (S) AK Choudhury DIG (BSF) GK Shank and top officials of the CRPF and intelligence agencies.

The Chief Minister is said to have expressed grave concern on young children being kidnapped and the impact felt by the people due to kidnapping incidents.

other important issued that figured prominently during the meeting included situation arising out of the Government's approval to proposal of heirok people to arm themselves and consequent setting up of SPOs as well as development on the suspension of operation policy with Kuki armed groups.

Co-inciding with the kiling of tw persons Imphal West district police commandos gunned down two suspected underground activists at Laphupat Tera Mayai Leikai, under Kakching police station, at around 1.40 pm today.

The commando personnel also recovered one 9 mm pistol with some live rounds and empty cases besides one Chinese made hand-grenade.

The bodies, retrieved by a team of Mayang Imphal police station personnel, have been deposited at RIMS morgue for identification and other relevant procedures.

One of the deceased attired in a black colour T-shirt and smoke grey trousers also sports a scorpion tattoo on the left arm while the other wears a blue colour track pants and striped shirt with a spider web tattoo and R letter at near the left wrist.
