Imphal, June 27: Killing migrant workers who were doing the odd jobs loathed by the local people for their livelihood was an act of terrorist, remarked Chief Minister O Ibobi while questioning any possible benefit from such dastardly killings.

Addressing Congress workers' conferences organised by Block Congress Committees of Khangabok, Thoubal and Thangmeiband, Ibobi who is also in charge of the Home Department conveyed serious concern over the ever deteriorating law and order situation.

The Chief Minister preached that violence cannot bring any solution.

There is no place for violence in a democratic country, he stated.

Asking whether there was any possible benefit that could be gained by killing migrant workers who came here in search of their livelihood, Ibobi observed that such incidents are unheard of in other States.

Asking how the people of other States and countries must have perceived the people of Manipur when they heard about such ghastly murders, the Chief Minister noted all the victims were innocent civilians.

As it is possible that such killings would result in unwanted incidents when the Government take up necessary measures to safeguard the lives and properties of civilians, he called upon all to ponder over the matter.

On the sore feelings of some people of Khangabok A/C and Thoubal A/C following their inability to call on the Chief Minister, Ibobi clarified that he has no reservation in meeting with the people of his constituency.

There were difficulties in managing the tight schedule which include several time-bound programmes, looking after departmental works and tackling day to day problems and meeting MLAs, explained Ibobi.

"Even though I wish to dedicate 24 hours a day to development works, I'm being constantly distracted by the prevailing volatile law and order situation", Ibobi stated.

"I'm also facing a tense situation following strong pressure from the Prime Minister's Office on the failure of the State Government to maintain law and order, rising crime rate, inability to show work progress, inability to extend railway line to Imphal, incomplete Capitol Project, Silk Project and the Loktak Downstream Project", he confided.

Talking about development, Ibobi said that efforts are on to cover Naga nalla and Nambul river so as to provide parking lots in view of the increasing population in Imphal and the rising number of vehicles.

Once the construction of the three Ima Keithels are completed, all the women licence holding women vendors including those occupying footpaths and road sides would be accommodated together in the newly constructed market complexes, Ibobi stated.

He further called upon the Congress workers to ensure success of Congress candidates in both the Parliamentary seats of the State.
