Imphal, January 24: With the process of filing nomination papers coming to end yesterday, scrutiny of the nomination papers have been conducted by the Returning Officers.

A total of 390 candidates filed their nomination papers.

One nomination paper from Tamenglong was found invalid.

The last date of withdrawing nomination paper is January 28.Even though the last date o filing nomination was yesterday, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer still does not have the statistics of the number of candidates who have filed their nomination papers.

An official source from the office of the CEO said ROs are yet to submit all the names of the candidates to the CEO office till today.

The breakdown inn telecommunication has hampered free flow of information from the offices of the ROs particularly from the hill districts to the CEO office.

On the scrutiny day today there was a virtual traffic jam at almost all the major roads as party workers and supporters staged rallies in their two wheelers and four wheelers.

The DC office at Lamphel was packed with candidates and their supporters in connection with the scrutiny.

Security personnel were out in full strength at the office complex to preempt any trouble.

On the other hand the CEO and ROs are hard pressed to provide vehicles to the 31 Election Observers deputed by the ECI.

An official from the CEO office said the respective ROs (DCs) have been entrusted with the responsibility of arranging fooding and lodging for the 13 election observers.
