Flood damage in Thoubal detailed

Imphal, August 21: The extent of the damages wrought by the devastating flood in Thoubal district has been detailed with the district administration submitting the list of damages and destructions to the Relief Department, said a well placed source today.

Other districts have also submitted their detailed report to the Relief Department but all the reports, including Thoubal, have been referred back as the authority felt that some of the damages were exaggerated.

Drawing up a detailed list of the damages caused by the flood since August 13 till date, the district administration of Thoubal stated that a total of 93 villages in the district were affected by the flood.

The number of people affected was pegged at 3,00,745 approximately while the area affected in terms of hectares was put at 36,568.400.The report further said that the flood destroyed 32,500 hectares of paddy fields leading to the loss of standing crops amounting to about Rs 11, 375 lakhs.

The number of fully damaged house was put at 13,000, partly at 10,000 and minor at 6,400 with corresponding loss of Rs 2,480 lakhs, Rs 200 lakhs and Rs 64 lakhs respectively.

The total damage to crops/houses/public utilities at Thoubal district was pegged at Rs 14,119 lakhs in the report.

To meet the need of the flood affected people, a total of 68 medical camps have been opened it the district with approximately 9.050 persons put on duty it one medical camps.

The quantity of rice distributed was put at 2,327.30 quintals while the quantity of dal distributed was put at 200 quintals.

109 quintals of salt have also been distributed.

Expenditure to be incurred by way of repairing roads, repairing of public buildings have been worked out at Rs 83.55 lakhs while another Rs 62.4 lakhs will be needed for repairing 241 schools at Thoubal and Kakching sub-divisions, said the source.

As per the report submitted by the District Fishery Officer, the total amount of loss incurred in the flood has been put at Rs 7.20 lakhs.

According to the report submitted by the Joint Director of the Veterinary Department of Thoubal district altogether 13,359 cattle/buffaloes were affected by the flood while the number of pigs affected were 1,507.The number of poultry affected was also put at 13,470.The source further said that a total of 1550 animals have been vaccinated while the number of animals treated have been put at 1720.Meanwhile the Electricity Department has also submitted the losses incurred in the flood.

According to the report submitted to the Relief Commissioner, the loss at Bishnupur has been worked out at Rs 7.94 lakhs, Rs 57.72 lakhs at Thoubal, Rs 33.47 lakhs at Imphal East, Rs 7.50 at Imphal West, Rs 5.29 at Nambol, Rs 13.30 lakhs at Moirang, Rs 55.27 lakhs at Kachang and Rs 17.60 lakhs at Kumbi.

The Agriculture Department has also worked out the damages of paddy field in the hill districts due to the heavy rainfall, landslides and flash floods.

At Chandel paddy fields affected have been pegged at 234.44 hectare, 400 hectares at Ukhrul, 118 hectares at Tamenglong, 352 hectares at Churachandpur and 140 hectares at Senapati.

Officials inspect flood affected areas at Chandel: The Assistant Commissioner to the Chandel DC, Swami DV along with two other staff visited the flood affected areas at Machi and Moreh sub-division in Chandel district yesterday.

The affected villages included Maipou, Kangshang, Aimol Khulen, Kangoi Khunou, Kangai Khulen, Tuisem, and Khunbi Loukon, reports our Chandel correspondent.

The team also assessed the landslide between Aimol Khulen and Kangoi Khunou.

The road at Tuishimi has been eroded by the flood.

The Aimol Chingnunghut School building has been washed away by the over flooding water from Tuisorok river.
