The relief material for the displaced villagers were handed over to Tousem village chief Ramtingching Jemei by AMUCO president Yangsosong Koireng during simple function held yesterday.

The relief material collected from the people and distributed to the displaced villagers included 30 quintals of rice, 445 litres of SK oil, 150 mosquito nets and medicines.

Speaking at the relief material distribution function, the AMUCO president said that Campaign UNIDEP team was sharing the plight of the displaced villagers.

He also lamented the frequent incidents of communal clash and conflict amongst different communities and ethnic groups of the North East region.

Yangsosong asserted that Campaign UNIDEP was launched to check such communal conflicts.

AMUCO general secretary NC Khuman demanded that the Government of Assam should take up necessary measures to protect people affected by communal conflicts.

Assuring full cooperation from AMUCO, he also proposed to the gathering to urge upon the Government of Manipur so that it give due pressure on its Assam counterpart. "Even as you are coming from Assam, we belong to a single group genealogically", NC Khuman said.

Although peoples of the North East are very much similar racially and culturally, there are UG groups based on ethnicity and there have been several untoward incidents amongst the people of North East, the AMUCO general secretary observed.

He further reminded that the Zeliangrong people have big responsibility towards making Manipur a developed and peaceful State.

The function was also addressed by president of the All Jiribam United Clubs' Association M Maipak and AMESCO advisor L Brojendro.
