Govt gears up to foil UNC rally

Imphal, June 15: With the Government deciding to ban the proposed rally by the UNC in four hill districts of Ukhrul, Senapati, Chandel and Tamenglong tomorrow, the district administrations of the four hill districts have started taking up all the necessary security measures to meet any eventualities.

As the first step towards effectively implementing the ban on the rally, the respective Deputy Commissioners of the four hill districts today issued prohibitory orders under CrPC 144.The restrictions will forbid any public meeting and the assembly of more than four or five persons at any place and any time.

The prohibitory orders will come into force from 6 am tomorrow.

Speaking to The Sangai Express, DGP AK Parashar said that adequate security measures have been taken up to foil any attempts taken up by the UNC to stage the rally tomorrow.

If needed, the services of Central Para-military force will be requisitioned, said the DGP.

To a question whether any civil organisations from Nagaland are likely to come for the proposed rally, the DGP said the Government has not received any information in this connection.

According to another well placed source, three companies of the CRPF have been sent to Senapati to meet any eventualities tomorrow.

The district police too has taken up all the necessary steps to foil the proposed rally in Senapati, said the source further.

IG LO-II, A Romenkumar is expected to supervise the security arrangement at Senapati.

In Ukhrul district too, the Government has not left anything to chance.

On top of the police force available at the district, the State Government too has asked the district administration to use the services of the 6th MR.An additional platoon of MR has also been despatched to Chandel, said the source adding that Thoubal police too will be used to foil the rally.
