3 KYKL cadres killed in hotel shoot out

Imphal, December 10: Three KYKL cadres including a key member of the outfit were killed in a shoot-out with a combined force of Imphal West Bishnupur district police commandos inside City Inn hotel at North AOC at about 9.30 am today.

A press release issued by SP Imphal West Clay Khongsai informed that Bishnupur police commandos assisted by Imphal West commandos, acting on a specific information, conducted a search operation in City Inn hotel at about 10 am today.

In the course of the operation, unknown armed persons opened fire towards the commandos from one of the rooms which resulted in an encounter for about 10 minutes.

Another team of commandos who covered the terrace of the hotel was also fired upon by another armed cadre.

In the retaliatory fire, the cadre was killed.

After the encounter, two other cadres were also found shot dead inside a room.

Of the three slain cadres, one is suspected to be a hard-core KYKL cadre identified as Great who was involved in snatching of arms and ammunition and different cases of ambush against security forces including the Khoirok Lamkhai (near Laimaton) ambush of February 24 this year on a convoy of 1st IRB in which 16 IRB personnel were killed and 7 others injured, added the release.

According to police sources, the three KYKL cadres checked in at the hotel at about 12.30 pm yesterday at room numbers 201 and 202 which were booked by one Prakash s/o Ibomcha of Shillong.

The trio reportedly told the hotel staff they would be leaving for Guwahati this morning.

Two KYKL cadres were gunned down in room number 202 while the lieutenant was shot dead on the top floor of the hotel.

The slain lieutenant is identified as Hamom Phulendro alias Sunil alias Great (40) s/o late Khelemba of Bishnupur ward no 11.The other two cadres are suspected to be Chingkhu of Wangoo and Devan of Oksu.

One AK 47 rifle, a magazine with 22 live rounds, one 9 mm pistol with three live rounds and a HE grenade were recovered from the slain cadres.

The corpse of Great has been handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS.

He was a married man even though he had no issue.
