Imphal, February 03: Saying that tension is running high among the electorates of Wangjing Tentha Assembly constituency following alleged distribution of money to some voters in violation of the election code of conduct by the Congress party candidate Moirangthem Hemanta, CPI nominee and MLA Dr Moirangthem Nara has submitted a complaint to the Election Commission of India on this regard.

Speaking to reporters today at Irabot Bhavan, Imphal, Dr Nara informed that he submitted a written application to the EC to check Hemanta resorting to money power and muscle power to woo the voters.

The complaint mentioned that the election process in the constituency was not free and fair.

He alleged that there was a crisis over distribution of money by Hemanta's wife Dr Pratima and one T Liklai at the office of the NGO - Working Tentha Farmers' Association located at Khongjom Bazar in Thoubal district.

Disclosing that Hemanta has been running five different NGOs, Dr Nara asserted that Hemanta has been swindling money provided to these NGOs.

Just as the information of distributing money by some persons including Hemanta's wife was received, complaints were immediately lodged at the office of District Election Office and election observers.

When the DEO deputed a team of police to the place, the accused, however, managed to flee from the area.

However, it was learnt that money was distributed to about 30 people, Dr Nara conveyed.

Moreover, three supporters of Hemanta who came to distribute money at Phundrei on January 31 were apprehended.

The three individuals were later released by police.

Not only that, in Phundrei Muslim village Hemanta promised Rs 1000 each to every household which put up Congress flag.

As the Congress candidate has failed to give the promised money, there were many incidents of disputes in many families, Dr Nara asserted.

The CPI candidate called upon the electorates of Wangjing Tentha to give a befitting lesson to M Hemanta for violating poll procedure.
