CM's quarters attacked, again

Imphal, September 01: Exposing the chink in security arrangements in the highly fortified Babupara area, the official residence of the Chief Minister came under a bomb attack today at about 8.20 pm.

Significantly this is the second time the Chief Minister's official residence has come under attack.

As in the earlier attack, the police suspect that the offensive was launched from the eastern side, probably from Sanjenthong side.

Quoting reports from the bomb squads, police said that the bomb is probably a lethod bomb.

The bomb landed very near to the office of the Chief Minister and though there is no report of any casualty, the impact of the explosion created a knee deep crater.

At the time of the incident, the CM was in his bungalow.

The proscribed PREPAK has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Aheiba Angom of the publicty dept of the outfit said that it was launched by a Special Task Force as a warning to the CM to clarify on certain points or else more attacks will follow.

Following the audacious attack security has been beefed up.

Entry of vehicles towards the direction of the CM's residence has been banned.

Vehicles coming along NH-39 through North AOC are being diverted towards Mayai Lambi.

Security at the CM's residence is provided by the 143rd Bn CRPF.

As news of the attack spread, high ranking police officers including the DG, ADG, IG (Int), SP of Imphal West, SP Special Branch and others rushed to the CM's residence.

Cabinet colleagues of the CM also rushed to the CM's residence.
