Imphal, November 08 2014 : The 10th Annual Literary Conference of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Meghalaya (MSPM) was held at Old Guest House, NEHU, Shillong today.

Dr.K.K.Paul, Governor of Meghalaya, was the Chief Guest of the Inaugural session.

Prof..PShukla, Vice-Chancellor, NEHU, Shillong and Prof.(Smt.) Streamlet Dkhar, NEHU, Shillong, were the Special Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.

Rajamani Nongthomba, President of MSPM, presided over the function.

Five awards for year 2014 were conferred by the Chief Guest.

The awards for this year are Sangeet Ratna conferred to Shri Ningthoujam Nabachandra Singh (renowned singer), Sangeet Bhushan conferred to ShriSamurailatpam Nabachandra Sharma (renowned singer), Kabya Bhushan conferred to Shri Jateshor Tongbram (poet), Sahitya Bhushan conferred to Shri Nongmeikapam Nabakumar Singh (Novelist) and Sahitya Sevak conferred to Dr.Elangbam Kameswar Singh (Literary Social Worker).

Governor K..KPaul congratulated award recipients and welcomed those from other states and other countries and hoped they will enjoy their stay in Meghalaya as this is time of the year is pleasant without rain and extreme cold.

In his speech, the governor stressed the need for translation of the literary works in Manipuri to English to make it accessible to the world.

A novel entitled "Ei Wari Lige" written by N.Munish Singh was released by the Chief Guest.

A symposium was held as part of the Annual Conference.

Dr Saratchandra Longjomba, Asst.

Prof., D.M.College of Arts, Imphal gave a lecture on the topic "Manipuri Sheirengi Khongchat." There was also a poetry reading session where more than forty poets read poems in different languages including Manipuri, Khasi and English.

The Conference ended with a cultural programme.

Many artists like Usham Nirjitkumar, Ningthoujam Nabachandra and Samurailatpam Nabachandra Sharma presented songs during the cultural programme.
