Woman, new born child found dead, JAC formed

In a shocking incident, an 18-year-old woman along with a newly born child was found dead in a pond at Irengband Hawairou Laibung Leikai under Kakching police station today morning.
The deceased has been identified as Laitonjam Sanalembi Chanu d/o Rohidas @ Inaobi of Irengband Hawairou Laibung Leikai.
She was appearing in the ongoing Class XII examination conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM).
She was a student of Kakching Higher Secondary School.
According to the deceased's family members, Sanalembi was reported missing since yesterday evening and remained traceless till late night until she along with a newly born child was found dead in the pond today morning.
It could not be ascertained whether the child was born by Sanalembi or not.
The family members had presumed that Sanalembi may have eloped with her lover after she failed to return till late evening.
While the family members were waiting for information about the elopement in the morning, the deceased's father come across the slipper worn by Sanaleima lying around 20 meters on the northern side of their house at around 9.30 am.
Out of suspicion, the father approached the pond where he found the dead body of his daughter.
When the body was pulled out, another dead body of a newly born child was found alongside the former.
Soon after getting the information, a team of police arrived and enquired about the incident.
A team of forensic experts also arrived at the spot and conducted inquest of the incident site and its surrounding areas.
The dead bodies have been deposited at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) morgue for post mortem examination.
A case has been registered in the police station in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, a public meeting against the death of the woman and newly born child was convened at the locality wherein a Joint Action Committee (JAC) was formed.
The JAC comprising of 15 members unanimously resolved to demand the State Government to find out the culprit (s) within 36 hours .
It further resolved to demand the authority concerned to conduct magisterial inquiry into the incident.
The JAC also decided to not accept the dead bodies till the Government books the culprit (s) .
