The evening local daily "Meeyam" completed 25 years of publication today.
The silver jubilee function was held with a function at Manipur Press Club which was marked by released of a special issue of the daily and honoured of hawkers.
Former president of All Manipur Working Journalists� Union and also former editor of "Ehou" AK Sanaton, former editor of Hueiyen Lanpao, Bharatbhushan and editor of the daily S Jugol attended the function as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
A newspaper is the mirror of the society.
From news in the newspapers, the identity of the country or state could be understood.
Newspaper should be careful while publishing news report.
Bias news should not be published, AK Sanaton speaking as chief guest said.
Expressing concern over the appearing of reports appear to be one sided one, he said publishers or authority of the newspaper house take care of such reporting, the society may be dragged down downward.
Speaking as guest of honour, S Bharatbhusan observed that in the present trend publishing newspaper for the name sake is of no use.
It has turned to be a competitive one across the globe.
He also appealed not to publish reports based on sympathetic approach but to give a room for the poor section of the society too in airing their grievances.
Publication of a newspaper needs a huge investment but contrary to the labour and investment involved, they could not be published independently due to pressure from various circles.
This is not a good sign, he added.
President of the function, S Jugon recalled that "Meeyam" daily was launched in 1976 as weekly at first.
On the occasion, Meeyam awarded best hawker award to H Momocha.
He got a bicycle as presentation.
Gyneshwor and Gopen were awarded second and third best hawkers.
They were gifted one wrist watch each.
Some hawkers were also honored with gifts on the occasion.
