Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) along with Laining Laishon Phamsak Lup (LLPL) and All Manipur Matam Ishei Kanglup (AMMIK) in a joint press meet held at the office of MEELAL have resolved to do away with all forms of foreign languages from songs of religious ceremonies including 'matam eshei' .
All the three organizations resolved to rectify the terms and words used in religious ceremonies and replaced foreign terms with indigenous words.
Furthermore they urged all the people concerned to use indigenous words and declared that if any organization or person do not follow the recommendations made they would be banned from performing any religious related activities.
K Birkumar, Secretary LLPL said that every member of the lup will correct the mistakes they earlier made as a sign to support the efforts of MEELAL to conserve and preserve the native language.
"To improve our indigenous language a festival of religious ceremony will be conducted very soon", he added.
Meanwhile Netachandra Sharma, Secretary, AMMIK said, "lyricists of our State should support the movement to save our mother tongue by using indigenous terms".
He urged all the people involved to correct the mistakes which made earlier.
Speaking at a press meet president of MEELAL, Sadokpam Tomba said the movement is not a vested interest of some handful of people, but for the whole of the State who are ready to do anything to save the indigenous language.
He further said that MEELAL too understands the current situation.
It will take time to stop people from using foreign terms while converising, he said but added, "If we continue to use foreign terms in everything we do, one day our term will become history" .
He urged all to refrain from using foreign words while speaking or writing.
