Imphal, December 12 2011:
Yet another spell of economic blockade may hit the people soon as the Sadar Hills Districhood Demand Committee has started interacting with the people at the grass root level to see if the suspended economic blockade may be reimposed with effect from December 20 .
Talking to The Sangai Express a well placed source said that a final decision is likely to be taken on December 16 where a crucial meeting of the leaders of the Committee has been lined up.
"Christmas celebrations may be sacrificed in the pursuit of district status for Sadar Hills which has been pending for decades," said the source.
Opinion at the grass root level has already been sought in different places, said the source and added that on December 10 a meeting with the people of Bungpi area and Kangchup was held.
Another meeting with the people and leaders of Leimakhong and Motbung area was held today, said the source and added that another meeting has been lined up with the leaders and people of Kangpokpi and Sapermeina tomorrow (December 13) .
In pursuit of their demand for district status on Sadar Hills, the SHDDC had imposed an economic blockade from August 1 and suspended it at the midnight of October 31' following an MoU signed with the Government of Manipur.
No deadline was given in the MoU for upgradation of Sadar Hills to the status of a district in the MoU though it was generally understood that the SHDDC would wait for the District Re-organisation Committee to submit its report.
Three months was the time given to the District Re-organisation Committee to submit its report, but the deadline has already lapsed.
Another meeting of the DRC is scheduled on December 14 .
