NSCN factions fight in AP, villagers flee homes

Itanagar, November 02 2012: Villagers have fled their homes in two villages of Arunachal Pradesh after NSCN(IM) and NSCN(K) cadre were engaged in gun-fighting, officials said today.

Over hundred villagers of Ojakho, 15 km away from Chasa village in Tirap district, were caught in yesterday's cross firing forcing them to flee for safety, they said.

Intra-factional fight was also reported from Chasa village, they said.

Seventeen houses of the two villages were gutted and two others destroyed, they added.

Paramilitary forces had intensified patrolling in Borduria and Chasa areas following reports of clashes between the NSCN (IM) and NSCN (K) .

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki had yesterday directed the police to act without any delay.

"It is the responsibility of the government to ensure the security and safety of the life and property of the people and the state government will do what is needed," Tuki said.

About 60 NSCN (K) cadre camping in nearby Longmai village and about 50 NSCN (IM) cadre camping in Chatong village began the gun fighting around 4 AM yesterday that continued till 11 AM.

Three AK series rifles and over 100 live rounds were found by Tirap police during search operations from the spot where another turf-war took place on Tuesday last.

With the negotiation between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) reportedly drawing to the concluding part, the NSCN (K) has made it known that they would not be a part of the 'IM solution' .
