Imphal, May 31 2015 :
Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has appealed on Sunday to both Manipur and Nagaland Governments to bring about an immediate amicable settlement with the help of the Centre to end the prevailing Dzükou Valley boundary dispute.
The union in a statement said that it is very unfortunate that the right to ownership over Dzükou has created an unpleasant atmosphere and tension between "our beloved" Mao and Angami Yinamei brothers in particular and the people in general.
It said the rightful claim and counter-claim over Dzükou is supported by many powerful civil society organizations and prominent leaders of the two neighbouring States.
The ZU (AMN) feels that the opinion and views of these organizations and leaders may hamper the age-old good relationships of the two States, it said.
It said that at this critical juncture the union fervently appeals to both the Governments of the neighbouring States to bring about an immediate amicable solution to the boundary issue before it is too late.
The union said that taking advantage of the present situation it would like to bring to light the old saying of "our Zeliangrong forefathers" and elders living in Yangkhulen village under Senapati district of Manipur and Peren subdivision of Nagaland that a big chunk of Dzükou Valley belongs to the Zeliangrong people.
It claimed that in olden days the forefathers of Zeliangrong community used to go to Dzükou once in a while for hunting wild animals, birds, fishing, collecting vegetables for domestic consumption.
It further appealed to Mao and Angami Yinamei brethren to withdraw the ongoing restrictions imposed on each other so that they can come together with mutual understanding and respect in the true spirit Yinamei.
The union also said, "If this small piece of Dzükou valley is going to hamper our brotherhood and create an uncomfortable situation for the two States, then let's all declare that the Dzükou is "No Man's Land" so that all of us can enjoy the unique and amazingly beautiful valley together" .
