Union demands honorarium hike to Rs 6000

Imphal, August 01 2022: While maintaining that Rs 1000 monthly honorarium is too less and not in commensurate with the present time, All Manipur Mid-Day Meal Workers' Union (AMMMWU) has demanded enhancement of the monthly honorarium to Rs 6000.According to a statement of AMMMWU, students of government and aided schools as well as Madrasas in Manipur are provided food since the past 20 years under a Central scheme.

Cooks working under MidDay Meal are being provided Rs 1,000 as honorarium for only 10 months in a year which indeed is too less and not in commensurate with the present time, it said and urged the state government to increase the honorarium to Rs 6000 plus festival and vacation allowances.

While pointing out that some states had already increased the honorarium of Mid-Day Meal workers, the union said that the workers in Union Territory of Puducherry get Rs 21,782 monthly honorarium while workers in Tamil Nadu get Rs 13,100.It also said that daily wage for Mid-Day Meal workers in Kerala is Rs 600 plus festival allowance of Rs 1,600 and vacation allowance of Rs 2,000 .
