Imphal, June 20 2023: A joint team of Assam Rifles and Imphal East district police commandos recovered one 51mm mortar HE bomb from Mongjam foothills area on Tuesday.

According to PRO IGAR (S), on receipt of reliable information about stashing of war like stores, the combined team conducted extensive search at Mongjam foothills in Imphal East district during which the mortar bomb was recovered around 10:30 am .

Meanwhile, a cow was hit and injured after stepping on a landmine in the paddy fields of Heikol near Kangvai village in Churachandpur district on Tuesday.

According to report, large numbers of cattle reared by villages of Kangvai Heikol area were grazing in the nearby paddy around 9.15 am Tuesday, when a land mine exploded.

It may be mentioned here that since the conflict began on May 3, there have been instances of Kuki militants attacking Meitei villages in the peripheral areas and set -ting fire to their homes, in addition to planting explosive devices in paddy fields close to Meitei villages.

Most recently, one of landmines buried in the paddy fields located between Terak-hongshangbi of Bishnupur' district and the nearby hill exploded, killing a dog from the village nearby.
