CCpur, March 14 2023:
The Churachandpur Consumers Club today detected a huge quantity of expired products that are being sold to customers as it conducted surprise checks in several shops across the town.
Members of the Consumers Club checked shops located within Tuibong area and Central Lamka area today as they received reports about expired products and plastic rice being sold in the market.
During the examination of goods sold by the shopkeepers, they located a sizable number of Cold Drinks, Biscuits, Sweets, Moong Dals and Gulab Jamuns that are well past their expiry date.
They also discovered that almost all items sold by a few shops at Central Lamka have already crossed the expiry date.
The expired items include Soaps, Toothpastes, Diapers and other fast-moving goods.
All the expired goods have been seized, said CCC sources.

The CCC members also examined shops from where consumers allegedly bought rice that was fit to be dubbed as plastic.
They have however maintained that the rice were not plastic but could have reacted like plastic due to the use of what is known as Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK)– a Government certified rice preservative.
Requesting the public to immediately report to the Consumers Club Churachandpur if any expired items are being sold to them, the club leaders also urged anyone who may have their reservations on plastic rice to attend a seminar they will be conducting on March 17 at Synod Hall, as experts on the subject from Imphal will be addressing any doubts that may have arise about Fortified Rice Kernel.
