The Gauhati High Court has asked the State Power Department to compensate Rs 1 lakh to the family of an electrocution victim within four months.
Justice T Nandakumar Singh in his Imphal Bench sitting passed the ruling on December 3 following a writ petition filed by one Radhe Devi of Heirok Part-I in Thoubal District.
Case dossiers said that L Manglem Singh (12) son of the petitioner died after he contacted a snapped high tension wire near his residence on September 9, 1999.Advocate N Biren Singh appeared on behalf of the petitioner.
The counsel insisted that the bereaved mother had initially approached the State authorities including Thoubal DC and Chief Engineer (Power) to compensate for the death of her son as he died owning to the negligence of the Power Department.
Since the Government failed to respond to her plea, the petitioner moved the High Court seeking justice.
In the December 3 verdict, the Court asked the respondents which including the State of Manipur represented by Commissioner (Power), CE, EE (Power) and Thoubal DC to pay Rs 1 lakh as compensation for the death of the minor boy.
Rs 40,000 which had already been cleared as an interim measures should be adjusted against the whole amount, the Court ruled.
