Ukl/Spt/Cdl/Tml, January 02 2017:
Intensifying the protest against the decision of the State Government to create seven new districts and demanding the unconditional release of UNC president Gaidon Kamei and publicity secretary SH Stephen, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) picketed Government offices at Ukhrul district headquarters today.
The agitation was also complete at the other hill districts of Senapati, Tamenglong and Chandel, reports our correspondents.
TNL volunteers prevented office goers/staff from attending office.
However bank, electricity, water supply, educational institutions were exempted from the purview of the office picket.
Yesterday, the TNL launched a wide publicity drive throughout the town alerting the employees not to attend office and respect the call of the UNC.
TNL alleged that the State Government has violated the rights of the Nagas and announced that a special committee has been constituted to monitor the ongoing agitation with representatives from all Tangkhul social organizations.
To prevent any untoward incident and neutralise attempt to target public properties, strict security measures were taken up in and around Government offices under orders from Deputy Commissioner Pradip Chandran.
Despite the strict security measures, attendance in Government offices was practically nil and till the time of filing this report late in the evening there is no news of any untoward incident.
The picketing of Government offices was also effective in the Naga dominated districts of Senapati, Tamenglong and Chandel.
